DOWDING & MILLS FORMS ALLIANCE WITH HOWDEN SERVICE
23 October, 2002

Dowding & Mills, the UK’s largest independent engineering services company, has formed an alliance with Howden Service to provide a comprehensive asset management offering.

Howden Service is the service division of Howden Power, a leading manufacturer of industrial fans and heat exchangers. It provides a site based, plant maintenance service to clients in the UK and Ireland including the steel, cement, power and oil industries.

The seamless alliance will provide customers with both on-site maintenance and off-site refurbishment, as part of the asset management package. Focused on increasing plant reliability and availability, this service includes design, manufacture, maintenance, overhaul, refurbishment, upgrades and asset management.

“We will now be able to offer present and potential customers a total service for their plant and equipment,” commented Nigel Francis, general manager, Howden Service. “For example all the services that we would normally subcontract, such as machining, electrical, C & I, bearing re-lining and wear protection, we will offer in-house, reducing the procurement burden for both our customers and ourselves. Customers will benefit from having two
long-standing, quality, engineering organisations working together to offer a seamless and complete service.”

Derrick Arden, managing director, UK branch network, Dowding & Mills added: “We have provided Howden with repair and coating services relating to fans for several years, in both the UK and mainland Europe and are delighted to associate ourselves with a leading business that provides extensive site mechanical plant maintenance.

“We feel that our joint offer will be of particular interest to those clients who are currently looking to reduce their supply chains and are favouring companies such as ours, who can offer a complete service package. We look forward to jointly developing further opportunities and providing our clients with an increased service offering.”
